The Knowledge of the Seas

She had heard the tales, she had heard the whispers. The winds and waves had been calmed by his name and stirred by his voice. They knew his name. Every single wind, every single wave. And yet, they certainly didn't know her name... She had wandered these seas over and over again, and still the waves tossed her where they pleased. And the winds only encouraged the chaos. Her name held no authority over the waves. Try as she might. Scream and fight. Her name could not compare to his. The waves knew it and the winds too. So when she called for their calm, they each gave her chaos; and when she begged for chaos, they quietly gave her calm. She had thought her ship more capable of navigating these seas, but oh the calm had brought her to complacency, and as the waves drew closer to chaos, she became afraid. She didn't know what to do! She didn't know if she could handle it. She didn't know if her vessel could hold any weight against the winds, or would she simply fall to pieces where each wave broke. What could she do? There was no other name she knew that could change it all in a moment; and it certainly wasn't hers.
Her fears rose with the waves now and they were rising high. Swirling to catch the wind and the wind battling the wave's resistance. It was a storm, and she was caught in the middle of it all. The thunder, the rage, the threat of the waves existence. They could take her anywhere they wanted to. She had no control, none whatsoever. Not over her ship, not over the waves, not over the wind, not over what had been, not over what could come. Until suddenly she knew. She knew what she had known all along.
The winds and waves knew his name, and she did too.
As the waves rose, she didn't run. As the waves broke, she didn't. She closed her eyes as she opened her voice. She called to the name she knew. She called to the name that could change everything in a moment. The winds and waves knew it; and she did too. The waves shrunk back dragging the winds with them.
There was nothing they could do. His name was all they knew.
